Last week, EDI officially received a €2.2 million subsidy granted by SNN, the European Fund for Regional Development and the Ministry of Economic Affairs of the Netherlands for its so called EDIAAL project. EDIAAL will add a sustainability pillar to EDI’s current existing portfolio of courses, training programs and information packages on natural gas and energy for the executive energy sector.
The subsidy will be matched by EDI which creates a project with a total size of about €4.4 million. During the project course, new courses, training programs and information packages will be developed focusing on the role of natural gas in the energy transition. In addition five new energy related chairs in the academic community will be established via EDIAAL.
The project information will be made available for interested parties in the industry freely or against non-commercial conditions. EDIAAL thereby will function as an easily accessible knowledge and information network of gas and energy transition related issues, also for smaller companies.
Catrinus Jepma, professor of energy and sustainability at the University of Groningen and scientific director of the natural gas oriented EDGaR research program (€44 million) will act as the scientific director of EDIAAL. The project starts on September 1st , will last until the end of 2014, and will employ in total at least some 15 persons.
