“Gas Market Trading” and “European Gas Market Liberalisation” were launched by EDI

Recently two books entitled “Gas Market Trading” and “European Gas Market Liberalisation” were launched by Energy Delta Institute.

About “Gas Market Trading”

There is a clear difference between gas trading in continental Europe on the one hand and at the US and UK market on the other hand. Whereas on the former market bilateral contracting dominates, the latter markets have developed a strong tradition of trading on liquid markets. This difference raises the issue if a development towards a much larger role for liquid gas markets trading in Europe can be expected. A number of partners of EDI therefore asked EDI to address the issue from different academic perspectives. By asking academics rather than experts from the industry or consultants to reflect on possible gas market developments it was expected to get analyses and results that would be original, fundamental and unbiased. In the volume five teams from a number of universities/institutes have assessed various aspects of gas trading. By reading the book you will find out if the expectation mentioned has been fulfilled. Jointly the various analyses provide a deep insight into the various aspects underlying the structure and functioning of the modern European gas market. They also provide much food for thought about how that market may develop in the future.

About “European Gas Market Liberalisation”

EDI had an important role in publishing the thesis entitled: “European Gas Market Liberalisation” of Nadine Haase. The reader is offered an in-depth analysis of the evolution of regulatory regimes in European gas market regulation. The aim of the author is to provide a work of reference for students of the EU energy liberalisation process at one hand. On the other hand, it may serve students of energy economics and political science, journalists, scientists and practitioners involved in regulation of European gas markets as a source of inspiration and challenge to reflect on their views. Energy Delta Institute had a significant role in publishing the thesis in this book.

Nadine Haase has a Masters degree in political science form the Free University of Berlin where she specialised in international energy policy and international relations. She participated in the Trainee Programme of the European Commission, working for the Conventional Energies Unit at the Directorate-General Energy and Transport, before starting her PhD research on the European gas reform at the University of Twente. In 2006, she was visiting fellow at the Gas Programme of the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies. Nadine had been granted several scholarships, including from the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research. During these recent years, she had published several papers and articles on oil and gas markets. Having completed her PhD studies, Nadine is pursuing a career as market analyst with Gas Transport Services.
