On 3 May ‘Financieel Dagblad’, the leading financial newspaper in the Netherlands, published a supplement on Oil & Gas. The Energy Delta Institute contributed with a column providing the reader with a deeper insight on unconventional gas.
Due to innovations in the gas extraction techniques, large volumes of unconventional gas have become economically viable to be exploited. The financial crisis, the increase in LNG supplies and the rise of unconventional gas production (especially in the US) has substantially increased the available gas supplies, thereby putting pressure on the gas price, which makes gas attractive to be used as a fuel for electricity generation. These developments could ultimately strengthen the overall position of gas in the energy supply.
