Aim of the course

Upon completion of the 2-day Oil & Gas Agreements course, you will learn about the main aspects to be addressed in the following agreements:

Technical: reservoir estimates, partitioning, depletion strategy, other (non)communicating reservoirs

Economic: gas marketing, taxation treaty, project economics, processing and transportation and abandonment provisions

Commercial: cross border issues, market potential, depletion or supply type contracting, FID

Legal: applicable laws and legislation, lifting and balancing agreements, evacuation agreements

At whom is the Oil & Gas Agreements Course targeted?

The course participant will obtain knowledge on the complete process to establish the necessary agreements and contracts between the various parties involved, in order to bring gas reservoirs into production.

The participants’ profile includes preferentially a few years or more experience in the energy sector.

  • Is working in companies or institutes that are involved in oil or gas exploration and production, oil or gas purchasing, project economics, large equipment suppliers, law firms etc.
  • The background can vary that from a reservoir engineers to an economists, legal employees, license authorities, large off shore construction engineers or work within a governmental body.

The programme structure

Which topics are addressed during this course?

This specific course provides you with a complete overview on contracts that are needed between licensees and also between licensees and the state participant from the exploration phase, the development of gas and oil reservoirs until abandonment.

Topics are:

Day 1:

- Contract overview

- Overview of agreements between government and licensee and between oil and gas companies.

- Technical aspects; Resource assessment and classification and definition of reserves.

- Historical background, format, definitions and more about unitization agreements.

Day 2:

- Legal aspects, USA experience, agreements between states and between parties;

- Gas sales contracts, gas lift and balancing agreements and processing and transportation agreements;

- Presented case studies with real life examples and court decisions.

Our experienced lecturers will use real life examples to show most recent best practises in equity redeterminations in the industry.
