Dutch Deltaplan on Energy - June 16, 2010

On the 16th of June 2010 EDI in cooperation with Vlamboyant, the Young Professional organisation of N.V. Nederlandse Gasunie, organised a forum to discuss the Deltaplan on Energy; a plan from different Dutch political parties for a sustainable energy future. More than fifty young professionals from a broad range of energy companies came together to discuss this plan and meet with their colleagues.

The programme started with an introduction by Mr Floris Gräper of Gasunie. He set the stage for the discussion later in the afternoon. After this introduction Mr Harmen Bos (PvdA) explained what the Deltaplan Nieuwe Energie is all about. He elaborated on why it is so important to have this plan and why so many Dutch political parties are supporting this plan. Mr Catrinus Jepma (Energy Delta Institute) than set some big question marks to the Deltaplan Nieuwe Energie. Is it really possible? And what should the role of gas be in the future energy mix? Is there a role for gas?

After this very interesting speech of Mr Jepma the role of coal in the energy mix was discussed by Mr Marijn Holwerda (University of Groningen). He put the Dutch Deltaplan in an international context and explained that it won’t be that easy for the Netherlands to change the world by itself. Following these presentations a very interesting debate unfolded with the audience in which contending views appeared on the surface. Mr Gräper had to close the session at some point and invited people to continue discussions at the bar…
