How sustainable will the future of finance be?
Transitioning to a carbon-neutral economy will require trillions of investment in renewable energies and new technologies, making financing a key to the energy transition. How does this compare to the current role of energy where fossil resources are still an important and essential part?
The post-COVID-19 recovery period will bring extra challenges and opportunities to this financial transformation of the European economy.
In this intensive online course, veteran energy policy expert Bert Stuij takes an in-depth look at the financing of the energy transition and discusses the likely impacts of the COVID-19 crisis and the EU Green Deal.
Topics include: changes in renewable energy financing, new energy market designs and dynamics, cost outlooks and energy price trends, implications of the EU Green Deal, opportunities around decommissioning.
Financial experts from Triodos Bank and other financial companies will contribute their insights during the course.
With climate policies and targets largely in place, the key to the next phase of the global energy transition lies in generating the massive investment needed to accelerate sustainable energy production and distribution and boost energy efficiency.
Energy policy expert Bert Stuij, Vice President Innovation at the Energy Delta Institute (EDI) and Manager National Programmes/Energy at the Netherlands Enterprise Agency RVO, the institution responsible for government financing of sustainable energy in the Netherlands, takes participants on a tour of the energy value chain, with a special focus on the financing and investment requirements of the energy transition.
He discusses how financing is organised, what opportunities exist and how recent developments, such as the EU Green Deal and the COVID-19 crisis, are likely to impact the financing of sustainable energy markets and technologies.
Bert will be joined by the financial expert who will contribute his insights to the course: Kay van der Kooi, energy and climate manager at Triodos Bank.
