This course is taught by a top energy expert, Robert Kleiburg, and dives into the technical, economic and legal aspects around energy flexibility and the available solutions, namely energy storage.

Includes an inside look into exemplary benefits of gas storage and innovative business models for energy storages in Europe, including underground gas storage (UGS) and power-to-gas (hydrogen storage).

About the program

This highly intensive and practical course will put you up to speed on all aspects of the most difficult and crucial energy challenge today: storage and flexibility.

The programme provides an overview of what flexibility entails and why storage is a fundamental part of it, and inherently, of the grid. Day two of the programme dwells into the underground gas storage (UGS) business and has a virtual tour of the Hungarian Gas Storage facilities. Finally, the role of hydrogen in energy systems will be further discussed, also with representation from the hydrogen project HyStock.

Lecturer Robert Kleiburg has a wide and varied background in energy and energy storage. He worked in leading positions at Shell, at the Energy Research Centre of the Netherlands (ECN) and as independent entrepreneur with his own start-up company.

Robert Kleiburg

Robert Kleiburg, MSc, was Chief Operations Officer at the Netherlands Energy Research Center (ECN) from 2011 to 2017. In 2017 he founded his own company, Recoy, whose mission is to accelerate the energy transition by helping customers increase their energy flexibility. Before he worked at Shell for 22 years, including as VP Strategy and Planning at Shell Renewables & Hydrogen.
